Yung Dee Yao, 103, died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Yung Dee was born in China on September 13, 1922. She married her beloved husband, Jimmy Yao, and together they raised three children. In 1967, the family immigrated to Savannah, GA, where Yung Dee and Jimmy opened the first Chinese restaurant on Tybee Island, the Dragon Palace. After Jimmy’s passing, Yung Dee moved to Atlanta to enjoy her retirement with her daughter, Winnie.

Preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; her son, Paul Yao of Savannah; and her son-in-law, William Tang of Roswell, Yung Dee is survived by her daughter, Winnie Tang of Alpharetta; her son, Danny Yao (Bie Tong) of Hong Kong; her daughter-in-law, Agnes Yao, wife of the late Paul Yao; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Melissa Yao Hille (Markus) and their children, Christopher and Lauren; Christina Yao (Chris); Brandon Tang (Sonya) and their children, Kai and Callen; and Serena Yao.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Bonaventure Cemetery.
